Enjoy unforgettable days on the Adriatic coast at the historic 5-star Grand Hotel Des Bains in Riccione, a house of timeless elegance. From there, discover the UNESCO World Heritage city of Urbino and the famous Byzantine mosaics of Ravenna, for a wonderful combination of culture, indulgence and relaxation.
Day 1: Switzerland – Riccione
Journey via the Gotthard route through Ticino, with a lunch stop at a grotto. Continue past Milan and Bologna to the Adriatic coast at Riccione. Welcome aperitif and dinner at the hotel. (3 nights at the Grand Hotel Des Bains*****).
Day 2: Ravenna
Ravenna is surrounded by magnificent pine forests and was the last capital of the Western Roman Empire. It was at various times under Western Roman, Gothic and Byzantine rule. Above all, its vast and precious mosaic decorations are among the richest and best-preserved artistic achievements of the Byzantine era in Italy. Mosaic art remains the flagship of local craftsmanship today, practised in numerous workshops and even taught in schools. Together with your local guide, you admire the Basilica di San Vitale with its magnificent, well-preserved Byzantine mosaics from the 6th century, and the Basilica Sant'Apollinare in Classe, renowned for its impressive apse mosaic. Afterwards, enjoy lunch in Ravenna. In the afternoon you have plenty of time to explore on your own. Then return to Riccione for dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Urbino
Today you travel to the Marche region and explore Urbino, capital of the Italian Renaissance and birthplace of the painter Raphael. The historic centre within the city walls dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries and houses many great works of Italian art and architecture. Urbino lies beautifully between two hills and offers breathtaking views over terracotta rooftops, churches and the valley below. Lunch in Urbino's old town, followed by free time. Return to Riccione. To finish, a lively gala evening with live music awaits you at the hotel.
Day 4: Riccione – Switzerland
Carrying happy memories and a story or two, you begin your journey home to Switzerland today.
You stay for 3 nights at the excellent *****Grand Hotel Des Bains, just 150 m from the promenade in Riccione. This Art Nouveau hotel offers elegantly furnished rooms, free Wi-Fi and free access to the wellness centre. The restaurants Le Colonne and Il Caminetto serve a mix of international and classic Italian cuisine.
