The most beautiful cities in Belgium
When you think of European Christmas markets, Belgium may not be the first destination that comes to mind. Yet the Belgian markets are a fact of the matter: they are every bit as good as the most famous Christmas events on the old continent.
Journey to Brussels. Arrival at around 18:00. With its majestic old town and unique atmosphere somewhere between city and village, Brussels has more to offer than is generally assumed. You probably think of the capital of Belgium and Europe, the Atomium and mussels with chips. But that is by no means all! The city offers a rich cultural, gastronomic and festive programme, not to mention its heritage: the Grand-Place, the historic buildings, the famous chocolatiers and much more.
Free day at leisure in Brussels.
Optional: Excursion to the Christmas market in Bruges, capital of West Flanders. Admire the Basilica of the Holy Blood, the Beguinage and the Town Hall. Then stroll around the Bruges Christmas market.
Free day at leisure in Brussels.
Optional: Excursion to Antwerp with its beautifully decorated streets in the city centre. Be sure to plan a visit to the DIVA Diamond Museum, a unique experience centre devoted to the wonderful world of diamonds and jewellery.
Return journey to Switzerland.
At the Brussels Christmas market Plaisirs d'Hiver, with its more than 200 chalets, the heart of the city beats during the festive season. On the Grand-Place, a majestic 22m-high Christmas tree stretches its branches towards the sky, while the facades of the venerable guild houses glow in the light of the sound and light show.
The Winter Lights in Bruges combine various Christmas and winter activities: the classic Christmas market, an ice rink in a picturesque setting and atmospheric light installations.
In the heart of Brussels' old town, you will be welcomed to the 3* Bedford Hotel (official national category), a boutique hotel just 450 m from the Grand-Place. Rooms with bath or shower/WC, hairdryer, TV and Wi-Fi. The hotel also has a restaurant and a bar. Equivalent hotel if unavailable.
