Spring awakening on the Côte d'Azur
The Carnival of Nice is one of the largest carnival events in the world. Since the 13th century, this Mediterranean metropolis has given itself over to festive revelry every year for two weeks. The carnival opens with the arrival of the King. The colourful festivities will enchant you too! At the "Fête du Citron" in Menton, citrus fruits are celebrated with events, parades and shows, and real fruit is arranged into elaborate sculptures. On this coach trip, enjoy the spring-like temperatures in the "Capital of the Côte d'Azur".
Day 1: Switzerland - Nice
The route runs via Lucerne and through the Gotthard into Ticino, then past Genoa via Diano Marina to the Riviera of Flowers and on to Nice.
Day 2: Flower Parade in Nice
In the morning, city walk through Nice with a local tour guide. At 2.30 pm the flower parade starts on the Promenade des Anglais. The large floats are decorated with around 3,000 colourful flowers. Roses, orchids, sunflowers, mimosas, carnations and many other bright blooms form the colourful splendour. Everywhere you look there are colourful costumes, dancers dressed in white and black, and stilt walkers in fantastic costumes. In between, festively decorated floats called "Bataille des Fleurs", the Battle of Flowers, glide past.
Day 3: Lemon Festival in Menton
The morning is free for you to spend as you wish. In the early afternoon, a short coach ride takes you to Menton. Everywhere you can admire gigantic motifs made from citrus fruits. The fantastic yellow and orange glowing figures stand mainly in the Biovès Gardens. Numerous festival floats decorated with oranges and lemons set off at 2.30 pm. For the rest of the afternoon, you can explore on your own as you please.
Day 4: Nice - Switzerland
You follow the Riviera dei Fiori to Genoa and continue via Milan back to Switzerland.
You stay at the elegant 4* Holiday Inn Nice City Centre (official local rating). It is located in the heart of Nice, just a 5-minute walk from the famous Promenade des Anglais. The modern rooms feature a bathroom/WC, hairdryer, telephone, TV, wardrobe and desk, minibar and safe. The hotel's own restaurant serves dishes made with organic produce on the shaded terrace. Equivalent hotel if unavailable.
