Festive Lights at Ulm Minster
In Ulm, the lights shine especially brightly for four weeks, at the traditional Christmas market on Minster Square. Set at the foot of the magnificent Gothic Minster, with its splendid portal and the world's tallest church steeple, this market draws visitors from near and far every year. The cosy, winding stalls and richly decorated booths are framed by the charming backdrop of the attractive shopping city of Ulm.
Route via Lake Constance, past Bregenz, to Ulm. Arrival in Ulm at approx. 1:00 pm. The city's tourist focal point is Ulm Minster, with the highest church tower in the world. Alongside a host of sights, the festively decorated Advent stalls gather here. Enjoy the pre-Christmas atmosphere on Münsterplatz. Culinary specialities, toys, arts and crafts and tree decorations, as well as a children's carousel and a petting barn with live animals, make the Ulm Christmas market the city's most important event every year for four weeks. In front of the main portal of the minster, pre-Christmas music and singing is performed every day during market time. To finish, the direct link to the pedestrian zones makes a shopping stroll the perfect way to end the day.
Free time at your disposal. Would you like to visit the Ulm Christmas market again, or perhaps go shopping in the lovely city centre instead? A stroll through the Fischer- and Gerberviertel (Fishermen's and Tanners' Quarter) is practically a must. Since the late 1970s, this historic craftsmen's quarter has been lovingly restored and charms with its pretty houses.
Return journey via Lake Constance to Switzerland, or an extra night.
More than 130 stalls line the square at the foot of the imposing minster. Every year, the Ulm Christmas market offers special attractions, e.g. the "Living Nativity", a glassblowers' hut or handmade works of art made from pralines and gingerbread.
