Gems on the Ligurian Coast
Five picturesque, car-free villages with charming harbours and dramatic cliffs make up the famous Cinque Terre. You explore this magnificent landscape, with its olive groves and rugged coastline, by boat and on foot. You visit the world-renowned marble quarries of Carrara and take a boat trip along the coast to the Portofino peninsula.
Depart from your pick-up point via Ticino to Marina di Pietrasanta.
Today you visit the villages of the Cinque Terre. Alongside the high cliffs and vine-covered slopes, this region seems to leave little room for people. Nevertheless, small villages with closely packed houses lie in between. These settlements are often reachable only by narrow roads or from the sea. From La Spezia, you take the boat along the rugged coastline to Vernazza. This Cinque Terre village, situated on a small peninsula, impresses with old castle towers, a small harbour and a small piazza by the sea. The boat then continues to Monterosso. The small old town is separated from the newer Fegina district by a rock jutting into the sea, on which the distinctive watchtower Torre Aurora rises. In the afternoon, you return to La Spezia by water. You stroll through the historic centre of Portovenere before returning to Marina di Pietrasanta.
(Optional excursion) Drive along the Riviera di Levante to the resort town of Rapallo with its charming promenade. You then transfer to a boat and follow the rocky coastline to the Portofino peninsula. Stop in the picturesque harbour town, with the opportunity for a leisurely stroll along the waterfront promenade. From the church square of San Giorgio you enjoy a wonderful view over the town, and from Punta del Capo you overlook the entire Gulf of Tigullio. Boat trip via Santa Margherita back to Rapallo. In the afternoon, you visit Carrara with its world-famous marble quarries.
Return journey past Parma and through the Lombardy plain back to Switzerland.
