Five enchanting Christmas markets

The most quintessential of all Alsatian Christmas markets is to be found in Colmar. During Advent, the beautifully decorated old town resembles a medieval drawing. Nativity plays, wooden toys, glass art, Advent wreaths and traditional music shape the scene in the streets and lanes.

Day 1: Switzerland - Colmar

Colmar, the oldest town in Alsace, is a place of peace and beauty, the hub of culture and joie de vivre. Throughout the old town, a warm and cosy festive mood prevails. During Advent it becomes a jewel box for the Christmas markets spread across five different squares. Each has its own theme and they blend harmoniously into the town's listed architecture. The people of Colmar take the beauty of their town very seriously: everyone takes part in a fun decorating competition and lets their imagination run wild when decorating houses and shop windows. Stroll along the canals, nibble a Bredle with an aniseed flavour (a typical Alsatian biscuit) and drink a glass of mulled wine scented with cinnamon and orange. As night falls, Colmar exudes an atmosphere second to none.

Day 2: Colmar - Switzerland

Explore the romantic, lovingly decorated old town once more. Even by day, it is easy to immerse yourself in the medieval atmosphere of the town, with troubadours and minstrels, wooden toys, glass art, choirs and traditional music. Wonderfully fragrant Vosges fir trees also remind us that the Christmas tree tradition originated in Alsace. Return journey to Switzerland.

Around 100 stalls offer Christmas decorations, arts and crafts, biscuits, mouth-blown glassware, jewellery, antiques and art. Opening hours: Mon. - Thu.: 11:00 - 19:00 Fri. - Sun.: 10:00 - 20:00

Walk from/to the pick-up point to/from the hotel approx. 25 minutes.
