A feast for all the senses - intense colours and alluring scents
Let yourself be seduced by the unique light, just as the Impressionists were. Dark cypresses, olives and wine, the glow of the sunflower fields, the nightly chirping of the crickets, and the aromatic scent of lavender and thyme will enchant your senses.
Via Geneva and Valence to Avignon.
In the morning, a walking tour of Avignon. The Palace, where the popes resided for 100 years, rises above the sea of houses like a fortress. Since the Middle Ages, a 4 km long fortified wall with towers and gates has protected the former "centre of the Christian world". In the afternoon, enjoy the view from Les Baux, a medieval "ghost town" perched on a rocky spur of the Alpilles.
In the morning, admire the impressive "Pont du Gard", which, as part of an aqueduct, bears witness to the extraordinary engineering of the Romans. Then it's on to one of the most beautiful gorges in France - the Gorges de l'Ardèche. Panoramic roads offer breathtaking views of the Rhône tributary.
(Optional excursion) Visit to the Rhône city of Arles. In the Rhône delta lies the natural landscape of the Camargue, known for its cattle and horse breeding and salt production. At the "Manade des Baumelles" bull-breeding farm, you will be treated to a traditional lunch. Stop by the sea at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
Excursion to the Luberon region, famous for its beautiful landscape as well as its picturesque old villages. The simple Cistercian Sénanque Abbey in the valley of the Sénancole stream lies amid lavender fields. Roussillon boasts the most spectacular ochre quarries in the Luberon. Gordes, a village built entirely of stone, towers high above a green valley - a valley full of vineyards and cherry trees.
