Deluxe flight & coach tour to the Mediterranean's largest island

Day 1: Switzerland - Palermo

Morning flight from Zurich to Palermo in Sicily, then transfer to your hotel in the picturesque harbour town of Castellamare del Golfo.

Day 2: Palermo

Excursion to Palermo. Guided walk through the artistic treasures and markets of the lively Sicilian capital, including the cathedral, the Norman Palace and Piazza Pretoria with its fountain of the same name. Magnificent palaces, churches and cathedrals alternate with typically southern street scenes. Visit to the Cathedral of Monreale, probably the most famous building in Palermo.

Day 3: Castellamare - Agrigento

You visit the romantic hilltop town of Erice, proudly perched on its rock. From the castle you will enjoy breathtaking views of the sea. Over a cup of coffee, you can enjoy a tasting of almond biscuits. Then continue to Agrigento.

Day 4: Agrigento - Aci Trezza

You will hardly find finer Greek temples than those in Agrigento, not even in Greece itself. Stop in Piazza Armerina and visit the Villa Romana del Casale, built around 300 AD. The site's great art-historical value lies in its magnificent floor mosaics, which have survived in most of the rooms. These mosaics depict chariot races, scenes from mythology and sporting contests. Continue to Aci Trezza on the east coast.

Day 5: Aeolian Islands

(Optional excursion) By coach to Milazzo, then by boat to Lipari, which offers fantastic views of the Aeolian Islands, while the island of Vulcano beckons with its steaming volcanic activity.

Day 6: Noto - Syracuse

Excursion to the most beautiful baroque town in Sicily, Noto, and to the magnificent Syracuse with its old town Ortigia on an island. Dinner at an orange and lemon plantation.

Day 7: Etna - Taormina

Excursion to the largest, still active volcano in Europe, Etna. It is a giant among volcanoes, counted among the largest in the world. Barren lava fields and bizarre crater landscapes provide an impressive contrast to fertile orchards and vineyards. The view from the ancient Teatro Greco over the town and the smoking Etna is simply breathtaking. Stroll along the shopping street Corso Umberto, between the city gates Porta Messina and Porta Catania.

Day 8: Cefalù

Visit the picturesque fishing town of Cefalù, situated on the north coast of Sicily at the foot of the Rocca di Cefalù, a 270 m high limestone cliff. The town looks back on a varied history, and several peoples have left their traces here. Drive to Palermo, where you will spend the night.

Day 9: Palermo - Switzerland

Transfer to the airport in the morning and return flight to Switzerland.

You will stay for 4 nights directly on the seafront promenade in Aci Trezza at the elegant 4-star Hotel Malavoglia Inn (official local classification). All rooms have a bathroom or shower/WC, hairdryer, satellite TV, air conditioning, safe, minibar and terrace or balcony. Equivalent hotels if unavailable.
