Stockholm is still festively illuminated and decorated from the Christmas season at this time of year. On 31 December, an actor reads the "New Year's Bell" atmospherically on the open-air stage at Skansen Museum, and Stockholmers gather to admire the fireworks over the city.
Day 1: Switzerland - Stockholm
Flight from Zurich to Stockholm. In the afternoon, city tour of the beautifully situated city, spread across 14 islands. You will see the main sights such as Gamla Stan, the Royal Palace and the Cathedral. You will also visit the Stadshuset, where the grand Nobel Prize banquet takes place every year.
Day 2: New Year's Eve
In the morning, you enjoy a splendid trip on a 1906 saloon steamer through the frozen waters of the archipelago. Lunch is served on board, and you will hear about the archipelago and Stockholm's sights. Return to the hotel to relax before enjoying a delicious New Year's Eve gala dinner in a fine restaurant in the old town. The evening concludes with a visit to the Skansen open-air museum. Here, many Stockholmers gather to hear the reading of Alfred Tennyson's poem "New Year's Bell" and to admire the fireworks over the capital.
Day 3: New Year's Day
Enjoy a quiet winter's day as you first visit the museum dedicated to the famous warship Vasa, followed by the very modern and interactive ABBA Museum. (Optional) In the afternoon, there is the opportunity to attend the traditional New Year's concert in the Cathedral.
Day 4: Stockholm - Zurich
Return flight from Stockholm to Zurich.
Day 8: Hannover - Switzerland
Return journey to Switzerland.
