Maritime Magic and Medieval Charm
Hamburg, the maritime pearl of the north, welcomes its visitors with a fascinating blend of cosmopolitan atmosphere and historic charm. This vibrant port city, known for its impressive Elbphilharmonie, idyllic Alster lakes and the lively St. Pauli district, offers a unique fusion of culture, history and modern city life.
Journey to Hamburg.
Today is dedicated entirely to Hamburg. During a city tour, a local guide will show you the most important sights and districts of the port city. Afterwards, enjoy a breathtaking view of the modern HafenCity from the Elbphilharmonie plaza. In the afternoon, a harbour cruise lets the Hamburg breeze blow around your nose. Depending on the water level, you will sail through the Speicherstadt, past various locks and harbour basins. You will see the enormous container ships up close.
(Optional) Lübeck, often affectionately called the "Queen of the Hanse", is a historic town in northern Germany, known for its impressive medieval architecture and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During a guided walk, you will discover the old town with its winding lanes and traditional buildings, among other things. Lübeck is particularly famous for its Niederegger marzipan, which is closely linked to the town's history. At the famous Café Niederegger, you can not only taste a great variety of marzipan, but also learn more about the art of marzipan making.
(Optional) The picturesque old town, the medieval charm and the narrow winding lanes - Lüneburg is among Germany's most romantic towns. The TV producers evidently thought so too in 2006 and chose this charming Hanseatic town as the home of the soap opera Rote Rosen. Twenty series and more than 3,500 episodes later, the Rote Rosen have become almost part of the town's furniture. Day after day, the most beautiful views of the town hall, the Alter Kran and the historic old town flicker across television screens. During a guided tour, you will see the filming locations live and in colour. In the afternoon, continue to Scharnebeck. Here, on the Elbe Side Canal, stands Germany's largest ship lift. Much like a giant lift, cargo ships in two 100-metre-long water-filled troughs overcome a height difference of 38 metres - from the Elbe marshes up to the geest and in the opposite direction. You will explore this spectacular structure with a tour guide.
Alternatively, you can plan the two days in Hamburg entirely to your own liking. There is plenty to discover!
