Rügen - Bornholm - Öland - Gotland - Åland
Accompanied by an expert on Scandinavia, you discover the beauty of the Baltic Sea in a remarkable combination of fascinating island landscapes, as varied as they could be: Rügen, Bornholm, Åland, Gotland and Öland!
Route via Basel and Frankfurt to Hamburg.
The last boarding point in Switzerland is Basel, Meret Oppenheim-Strasse, at 08:00.
Journey to the first Baltic island, Rügen, where you will be greeted by snow-white cliffs, blue water and wide sandy beaches.
Visit the chalk cliffs at the National Park Centre. The ferry takes you from Rügen to the Danish island of Bornholm in just 3½ hours. Here, pure romance awaits, with medieval round churches, colourful chimneys and memories of the fierce Vikings.
(Optional excursion) Rugged rocky coastlines alternate with kilometre-long beaches, peaceful forests, wide fields, deep gorges and idyllic fishing villages. You experience tranquillity and pure nature, and perhaps try a smoked herring.
Ferry crossing to the crime-novel town of Ystad, then coach journey via Karlskrona, which with its 33 islands rightly earns the title "Little Stockholm", to Kalmar.
Across the Kalmar Strait you reach the island of Öland, which will delight you with its diversity and contrasts! The famous karst and heathland of Stora Alvaret is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Windmills, early Gothic fortress churches and idyllic villages shape the landscape. In the evening, ship crossing to Visby, the capital of the island of Gotland.
(Optional excursion) The island owes its name to the Germanic tribe of the Goths. The landscape is shaped by forests, fine sandy beaches and steep limestone cliffs, with picturesque little towns and village churches scattered throughout.
Ferry crossing to Stockholm. On a guided city tour you get to know this magnificent capital. Water everywhere. And at its heart lies the island with the Old Town and its narrow lanes, the Stadshuset, Parliament Island and the royal palace, Kungliga Slottet.
In the morning, boat trip through the archipelago to Åland. The charming town of Mariehamn greets you with maritime flair. Swedish, Finnish and Russian influences have shaped this small island realm. Mariehamn lies on a narrow spit of land between two bays and the harbours of Västerhamn and Österhamn.
Discovery trip around the fascinating Åland Islands. Awaiting you is a rugged maritime landscape, smooth rocky coasts and glittering water. The archipelago consists of more than 6,700 skerries and islands, but only 60 are permanently inhabited. In the afternoon, boat trip back to Stockholm.
Journey across Sweden to the Göta Canal, often called Sweden's blue ribbon. The canal, built in the 19th century, links western Sweden with the east coast. Continue to Gothenburg. The city was founded in 1621 by King Gustavus II Adolphus and quickly grew into a centre of fishing and shipbuilding. Embark on a ferry to Kiel.
Morning arrival in Kiel and onward journey to Hamburg. The jewel of the city centre is the Binnenalster basin, laid out in the 17th century. Continue to Hanover.
Return journey to Switzerland.
