Deluxe Flight & Coach Tour into an Oriental Fairy Tale
A country as fascinating as the tales of 1001 Nights. On this flight & coach tour in a Deluxe coach, discover the Orient, the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains and the dazzling sun over the sand dunes of the Sahara, the bustling life in the maze of alleyways in Fez, or the solitude of the desert, but above all the genuine hospitality of the Moroccans.
Direct flight with Swiss from Zurich to Malaga, where your coach driver will be waiting for you. The coach continues to Tarifa and, by ferry, across to Tangier. Here your Moroccan tour guide will greet you and accompany you throughout the journey.
Journey to Meknes. Moulay Ismail, the power-hungry Alaouite ruler, had Meknes expanded into the most magnificent fortified city in North Africa. Even today, the imposing remains of the city walls and granaries shape the town's image. Onward journey to Fez.
Stroll through the most important of the four imperial cities, the country's intellectual and cultural centre and seat of the Islamic university, the Karaouyine. In the narrow lanes of the medina, the old town full of pulsing life with merchants, craftsmen, dyers, donkey drivers and tanners, you will feel transported as if into a medieval fairy tale from "1001 Nights". Let your senses be enchanted by the oriental smells, the noise of the alleys or the call of the muezzin from the minaret.
Through attractive cedar forests and across the wide plateaus of the Middle Atlas, you penetrate into the Sahara. In the oasis town of Erfoud you take a short walk before driving to the hotel right on the edge of the dunes of Merzouga, which rise up to 100 m high. Here a dinner awaits you in an atmospheric desert setting.
In the "Valley of the 1000 Kasbahs" between Merzouga and Ouarzazate you discover the first kasbahs. These are the bold castles of the Berbers, built from rammed earth, ochre-coloured fairy-tale palaces that appear like a mirage in the barren moonscape. In spring, at the time of the fruit, almond and rose blossom, colours and scents burst forth here between stony desert and karst mountains.
The Kasbah of Ait-Benhaddou rises in the middle of the fascinating stone desert. Passing the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas, you cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass, more than 2,260 m high, to reach the palm-lined oasis of Marrakech.
While Fez is known as the blue city, Marrakech is known as the red one. The houses are all in shades of red, pink or ochre. This imperial city is the oriental, mysterious and colourful Orient, and the country takes its name from it. You visit the Saadian Tombs, stand before the impressive minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque and admire the Bahia Palace. You stroll across the Djemaa el-Fna square with its acrobats, traders, snake charmers and storytellers, and through the bewildering labyrinth of alleys in the old town, the medina.
The route passes wide landscapes of argan trees on the way to the fresh Atlantic coast. In Essaouira, white houses and blue doors create a unique atmosphere. On a walk through the windswept harbour town, you enjoy the salty sea air and the relaxed bustle at the fishing harbour.
Along the coast you travel to Casablanca, where you marvel at the Hassan II Mosque. The modern capital, Rabat, invites you on a tour with broad avenues and generous parks. The royal palace, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the small Kasbah of the Oudaia are well worth seeing.
Journey north to Tangier. Ferry crossing to Spain, passing through the Strait of Gibraltar. Coach ride along the coast to the sunny Costa del Sol, where you relax in Benalmádena.
Guided city tour of Granada. The proud Moorish palace of the Alhambra (UNESCO) appears like a tale from 1001 Nights, with its playful inner courtyards and the blossoming Generalife gardens. Rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Coach transfer to Malaga airport and return flight with Swiss to Zurich.
