Spend the turn of the year in the wintry Ore Mountains and discover historic towns full of history, culture and cosy atmosphere. Look forward to charming old town centres, traditional Erzgebirge hospitality and a festive New Year's Eve celebration in Zwickau.
Day 1: Switzerland - Zwickau
Journey to Zwickau, the intellectual, cultural and economic centre of western Saxony.
Day 2: Playing Card Town Altenburg
Well fortified after breakfast, you set off on a city walk in Altenburg. The town of playing cards is world-famous. If you play cards in Germany, you are likely holding a product from Altenburg in your hand. Yet Altenburg has far more to offer than playing cards. This former residence city is rich in sights, above all the castle perched on a rock above the town. Alongside lovingly restored buildings, parks such as the green oasis at the Grosser Teich invite you to explore. The Altenburg Castle has towered over a porphyry rock for more than 1,000 years. In the afternoon you visit the Altenburg Brewery. Here you can look forward to an exciting guided tour and, of course, a tasting including a soup.
Day 3: New Year's Eve Celebration
After breakfast, your guide awaits you for a city tour of Zwickau. Known as the birthplace of Robert Schumann and as a motor city famous well beyond the German borders, Zwickau impresses with its historic town centre, with many buildings from the 15th century and restored Art Nouveau houses. The Priesterhäuser, first mentioned as such in 1521, are four two-storey houses forming an architecturally closed group, which are particularly worth seeing. They are fitted with the typical steep saddle roofs characteristic of late medieval construction. In the evening, a atmospheric New Year's Eve celebration awaits you at the hotel, where you will welcome the new year 2027 with music and dancing.
Day 4: Zwickau - Switzerland
Today it is time to say "Auf Wiedersehen, Zwickau!" Carrying fond memories and fresh energy for the year 2027, you begin your journey home.
The 4* First Inn Hotel Zwickau (official state classification) is centrally located in the heart of Zwickau's historic old town and combines modern comfort with stylish ambience.
