New Year's Eve Gala aboard the MS Kristallkönigin
Regensburg, the medieval city, attracts visitors with its Gothic cathedral as a landmark and the Stone Bridge, admired as a marvel of the world. Its old town, largely spared by war and the passing of time, is the last medieval large city in Germany and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. New Year's Eve aboard the MS Kristallkönigin, the largest ship of the Regensburg crystal fleet. The ship's silhouette alone is unique: a huge crystal crown approx. 15 metres in diameter adorns the exterior of the vessel. The ship is designed as a gallery ship: a large opening gives visitors a view from the gallery, known as the Bel Etage, down onto the entrance deck. This creates a truly unique spatial experience.
Journey through the Allgäu, past Memmingen and Landsberg. Lunch at Lake Ammer. Continue past Munich to Regensburg.
Excursion to the Bavarian Forest with a local tour guide. Traditional glassmaking at the glowing furnace can be admired at the Weinfurtner glass village in Arnbruck. Various exhibition buildings, glass finishing workshops and the “Kunst&Form” glass gallery with changing exhibitions together form the “Glasdorf”. You then travel over the Arber along the Czech border via Bad Kötzting and Cham back to Regensburg.
In the evening, enjoy a New Year's Eve cruise in a relaxed atmosphere aboard the MS Kristallkönigin. During the cruise, you will be treated to an exclusive 5-course menu. Dance into the New Year to live music and fortify yourself at midnight with a hearty soup.
Guided walk with your tour guide through the old town to the patrician houses, the Stone Bridge, the cathedral and the town hall.
(Optional) Late afternoon visit to the New Year's Concert by the Regensburg Philharmonic Orchestra. With joyful dancing, stirring rhythms and wistful melodies that lead to distant corners of Eastern Europe, the Regensburg Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes the New Year. Classical composers were already inspired by the almost inexhaustible source of Hungarian and Romanian folk music, but it was at the beginning of the 20th century that people began to systematically collect the melodies and incorporate them into symphonic works.
Return journey to Switzerland with a lunch stop in Augsburg, with the magnificent Renaissance backdrop of its town hall.
