The most beautiful river valley in France - hopelessly romantic
France's insider tip: the Deluxe coach tour to the Dordogne Valley in the Périgord! Picturesque villages and châteaux look down from rocky outcrops, world-famous wineries around Saint-Émilion, bizarre volcanic landscapes in the Auvergne and culinary delights such as truffles, wine and goat's cheese will delight you.
You travel via Geneva to Clermont-Ferrand.
The last boarding point in Switzerland is Geneva, Aéroport P6 Departure at 10.45 am.
In the Auvergne you pass through a bizarre natural landscape with craters from more than 100 extinct volcanoes. A stroll through the most beautiful village in France, Collonges-la-Rouge. The charming and romantic Sarlat, with its maze of small lanes and golden-yellow Renaissance houses, is a true gem that is almost completely unknown.
In the morning, visit the Marqueyssac Gardens and the rock village of Les Eyzies. Then you will see the unique Lascaux Cave: Stone Age paintings of horses, bulls and bison adorn the walls of the grotto. In the Vézère Valley you will meet Bruno, Chief of Police and bestselling hero of the novel by Martin Walker.
(Optional) Excursion to Périgueux, with its uniquely domed cathedral and specialist shops that invite you to browse. The charming old wine town of Saint Emilion impresses with its subterranean Église Monolithe carved into the rock, a visit to a winery in the region with tasting, and a dinner buffet.
The old, tiny pilgrimage town of Rocamadour clings like a swallow's nest beneath the cliffs and towers above the majestic Canyon de l'Alzou. A grand panorama over the Dordogne opens up before you at the medieval Château de Castelnaud.
The beautiful Notre-Dame Cathedral, made of pink sandstone, is the landmark of Rodez. In contrast, the pretty pilgrimage town of Le Puy presents itself with its bizarrely towering extinct volcanoes.
Return journey to Switzerland.
The 4* Grand Hotel De Selves (official national category) welcomes you just a few minutes' walk from the historic and picturesque centre of Sarlat.
