From Marseille to Châteauneuf-du-Pape
When the light dances over the rooftops of Marseille and the air smells of sea and pine, the south of France begins to unfold all its magic. How could the day begin more beautifully than with breakfast at the InterContinental Marseille? Before you lies France's oldest city, awakening in the sunshine, and the scent of coffee and sea fills the air. With your tour guide, you will explore the most beautiful parts of Marseille in the morning: the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, the Old Port and the historic Le Panier quarter with its boutiques and cafés. A boat trip then takes you to the Calanques National Park, a spectacular landscape of white cliffs, turquoise water and small coves. Afterwards, free time and a free dinner.
Today we travel to Arles, the city of the Romans and artists. On a short guided walk you will see the amphitheatre, the Cathedral of Saint-Trophime and the squares that Vincent van Gogh immortalised in his paintings. There is time for an individual lunch and a leisurely stroll through the old town. In the afternoon you will discover the Camargue, a vast plain of salt and rice fields. Flamingos, white horses and bulls make their home here. Visit to a traditional estate.
This day shows Provence in all its varied beauty, from the quiet charm of the Alpilles to the elegance of Aix-en-Provence. In the morning you visit one of France's most picturesque villages, Les Baux-de-Provence, which sits dramatically on a rocky plateau and captivates with its lanes and houses carved into the rock. In the Carrières des Lumières you experience a fascinating interplay of light, music and art. In the afternoon you discover elegant Aix-en-Provence, the city of fountains and artists. In the evening you return to Marseille and dine together at the hotel.
On the way back to Switzerland, you visit a renowned winery in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the most famous wine village in Provence. You will learn about the history of these noble wines and taste some of the finest, a stylish conclusion to your journey to Provence.
