From Andorra's mountains via Dalí's art to Catalonia's wild coastline – and back by cruise
This journey brings together two worlds: the rugged mountain scenery of the Pyrenean microstate of Andorra and the sun-kissed Costa Brava. You will discover medieval villages, the surreal world of Salvador Dalí and the vibrant city of Barcelona. The homeward journey is a truly relaxing affair by cruise ship: from Barcelona you glide across the Mediterranean to Sardinia, then on to Naples with the stunning Bay of Capri and the eternal city of Rome, before the ship docks in Genoa.
Drive through France to the sunny south. In the Avignon area, at the gateway to Provence, you check in to your hotel for the first night.
Across the mountains of southern France you reach the Principality of Andorra, nestled between the high peaks of the Pyrenees. In the afternoon, there is time to explore the lively capital, Andorra la Vella, and its shopping streets at your own pace.
On a panoramic drive you discover Andorra at its most beautiful: deep-cut valleys, Romanesque chapels and flower-decked mountain villages set against a backdrop of peaks almost 3,000 m high. To finish, you are invited to a tasting of traditional herbal liqueurs.
You leave the mountains and reach Girona with its dreamy old town, the colourful houses along the River Onyar and the medieval Jewish quarter. In Figueres you enter the fantastic world of Salvador Dalí: the theatre-museum he designed himself is his greatest total work of art. Afterwards you continue to the Costa Brava.
A circular tour takes you to the most beautiful spots of the ‘wild coast’. You stroll through medieval Pals, see the coastal town of Begur with its castle ruins and discover Palafrugell with its picturesque coves. At midday you enjoy a traditional paella with sangria.
On a guided city tour you experience the Catalan metropolis of Barcelona: the world-famous Sagrada Família, the Gothic Quarter and the bustling Las Ramblas. Over a tapas lunch you sample the city's culinary variety. In the evening, it is time for cruise guests to ‘cast off’ as your ship sets sail across the Mediterranean. Coach guests return to the Costa Brava for one more night.
A relaxing day on board. In the afternoon your ship anchors off the south-west coast of Sardinia, with views of Portoflavia and the fishing town of Carloforte.
Your ship docks in Cagliari, the lively capital of Sardinia. Above the city rises the historic Castello quarter, with far-reaching views over the sea, while alleyways, markets and cafés invite you to wander.
Naples welcomes you with southern joie de vivre against the backdrop of Vesuvius. In the evening your ship glides through the Bay of Capri. As a ‘Destination at Sea’, you admire the steep cliffs from on board.
From Civitavecchia, the gateway to the Eternal City opens up: Rome with the Colosseum, St Peter's Basilica and treasures from two thousand years.
In the morning you reach Genoa. After breakfast on board, you begin the journey home in a Comfort coach.
You will stay in selected 4-star hotels (official national rating). In Andorra you are accommodated centrally in Escaldes-Engordany. On the Costa Brava, the well-kept Sumus Hotel Stella & Spa in Pineda de Mar awaits you, just a few steps from the beach, with an inviting wellness area and Mediterranean charm. Comparable hotels if unavailable.
