Away from the busy summer months, Rome reveals its very special charm: its famous squares and sights can be explored at a more relaxed pace, while the Mediterranean way of life comes into its own in the alleys and cafés. Look forward to a journey full of history, culture and Italian joie de vivre.
Day 1: Switzerland - Rome
Journey to Rome.
Day 2: Ancient Rome
Rome is really an open-air museum. You begin your “Tour of Antiquity” on the Capitoline Hill with a wonderful view over the Roman Forum. This is followed by the Colosseum and the Via dei Fori Imperiali with the Imperial Forums. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 3: Christian Rome
(Opt.) Today you follow the footsteps of Christian Rome with your tour guide, walking from the hotel to the Vatican with St Peter’s Basilica. You admire the largest basilica in Christendom with its precious furnishings. Visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel.
Day 4: Alban Hills
(Opt.) An excursion to the picturesque Alban Hills offers a charming contrast to the bustling city life. Highlights include the idyllic Lake Albano and Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence. The day concludes with a wine tasting in Frascati, where regional wines and a light lunch with a magnificent view are enjoyed.
Day 5: Rome - Switzerland
Return journey to Switzerland.
The 4* Ele Green Park Hotel (official national category) lies peacefully in the green district of Aurelio. Surrounded by a private park, it offers a relaxed atmosphere away from the urban bustle. The 153 classically elegant rooms feature air conditioning, minibar, safe, desk, free WiFi, flat-screen TV and bathrooms with shower or bath, bidet and hairdryer. Some rooms also have a balcony or terrace. The hotel’s own restaurant, “Oasis”, serves Roman and international specialities overlooking the garden. A bar with terrace invites you to linger. Equivalent hotel if unavailable.
