In the Footsteps of Inga Lindström and Astrid Lindgren
Magnificent landscapes of southern Sweden: the lakes, the soul-warming hospitality and the capital, Stockholm, await you on this journey. Southern Sweden is also the realm of Pippi Longstocking and of Inga Lindström's love stories.
Journey via Frankfurt to Hamburg.
The last pick-up point in Switzerland is Basel, Meret Oppenheim-Strasse, at 08:10.
Drive past Hamburg to Puttgarden and across the impressive Øresund Bridge to Malmö. Malmö's Lilla Torg, with its cobbled lanes and magnificent old houses, has a special charm, and you will explore it with your tour guide.
On the drive through the scenic south of Sweden, you will get a first impression of the overwhelming nature of Scandinavia. Travel to the Glass Country, where a large part of Swedish glass production is based. At Kosta Boda, look over the shoulders of the glassblowers as they shape their delicate works of art. Not far from the glassworks, you will meet the "Kings of the Forest", the elks, in a park. After a short walk on the elk trail, the journey continues to Kalmar, the harbour town on the Baltic Sea.
You follow the Baltic Sea and cross Östergötland with its countless lakes and forests. (Optional) In Söderköping, a boat trip with lunch on the magnificent Göta Canal awaits you. Many Swedish politicians, kings and industrialists were inspired by the idea of linking the east coast at Stockholm with the west coast at Gothenburg. In 1998, the Göta Canal was named a historic landmark of international engineering. Afterwards, coach journey to Stockholm.
On a guided city tour, you will get to know the magnificent capital, Stockholm. Water, water everywhere. And in the middle stands the island with the Old Town and its narrow lanes, the Stadshuset, Parliament Island and the royal palace, Kungliga Slottet. (Optional excursion) In the afternoon, you have time to explore Stockholm on your own, or you can take part in the excursion to the islands, which are used as local recreation areas. The Stockholm archipelago consists of 30,000 islands, skerries and rocks, stretching east of the city centre into the Baltic Sea.
Excursion with your tour guide to the picturesque province of Södermanland, where many scenes from Inga Lindström's gripping love stories were filmed. You make a detour "to the end of the world", into the southern archipelago. The colourful wooden houses and winding alleys give the picturesque small town of Trosa the charm of the turn of the century. A walk along the river to the dreamy harbour before continuing to the idyllic town of Mariefred with the famous Gripsholm Castle. In Taxinge on Lake Mälaren, you are invited to coffee and cake. A brief stop on the island of Lovön on Lake Mälaren at Drottningholm Palace. Return to Stockholm.
Travel right across Sweden to Lake Vättern. Discover the charming city of Gothenburg on a guided city tour, and let its maritime atmosphere, historic sights and lively character captivate you. In the evening, embark on the Stena Line ferry.
Disembark in Kiel and travel to Hamburg. With your tour guide, you will visit the Outer Alster, the Jungfernstieg, the fish market, the Speicherstadt and the elegant Mönckebergstrasse. You will marvel at the "Michel", enjoy culture and history, and discover the sinful life of St. Pauli. Free time at your disposal. Onward journey to Hanover.
