Olive groves in Apulia

Sunny Apulia

Trip highlights:

  • Cave city of Matera
  • Trulli village of Alberobello
  • Olive gold & olive leaf beer

Discover the magic of the South in a traditional masseria

On this flight trip, you discover the real Apulia, far from the crowds. Instead of packing your case every day, you stay at Masseria Caselli, a traditional Apulian farmstead amid olive groves, and get to know the region from there at your leisure. Traditional bread-baking, the region's golden olive oil and the warm hospitality of the Apulians make this journey an authentic encounter with southern Italy.

Flight to Bari, the lively capital of Apulia. Your transfer takes you comfortably to the masseria, your base hotel for the coming days.

Day 2: Trani – Giovinazzo – Bisceglie

Trani Cathedral is one of the most beautiful examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture and stands right by the sea. You stop briefly in the former fishing village of Giovinazzo before following the path of the golden olive oil at an oil mill near Bisceglie. At the tasting, you sample olive leaf beer.

Day 3: Altamura – Matera

In the ‘City of Bread’, Altamura, you learn the art of the famous Pane di Altamura. Onward to Matera with its Sassi cave dwellings hewn into tufa stone, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. At a cave dwelling and the rock church, you experience how people once lived here. Back at the hotel, the day ends with the lively pizzica-pizzica dance.

Day 4: Lecce – Otranto

(Optional excursion) Lecce, the ‘Florence of the South’, enchants with the playful façade of the Basilica Santa Croce. In the coastal town of
Otranto, the Castello Aragonese watches over the old town before a wine tasting crowns the day. Those who prefer to stay can enjoy the masseria.

Day 5: Alberobello – Ostuni

Through the ‘Valle d'Itria’ you reach Alberobello with its distinctive trulli, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. A local resident opens the doors of his trullo for you. On a hill sits the dazzling white town of Ostuni with its late Gothic cathedral.

Day 6: Bari – Switzerland

Laden with many sunny impressions, you begin your return flight to Switzerland.

The Masseria Caselli, a traditional Apulian country estate amid olive groves, welcomes you with great charm. The 4* hotel lies about 5 km from the sea and 25 km from Brindisi.
