In southern Austria the sun shines a little more often and life moves at a gentler pace. Carinthia combines rustic alpine pastures, fragrant herb meadows and the elegant charm of Lake Wörthersee. From your hotel in Ossiach, you will experience Carinthian hospitality at its warmest.
Day 1: Switzerland – Ossiach
Your journey takes you from Switzerland over the Alps to Carinthia, to Lake Ossiach. Check-in at your hotel in Ossiach and dinner.
Day 2: Lake Weissensee – Irschen
On a boat trip across Lake Weissensee you enjoy the impressive mountain scenery of the nature park. Afterwards the chairlift takes you up to 1,324 m, and a short walk leads to the rustic hut on the Naggler Alm. In the afternoon you visit the herb village of Irschen: thanks to the sunny climate and richly varied mountain meadows, numerous wild and cultivated herbs thrive here, which you get to know on a guided walk.
Day 3: Klagenfurt – Pyramidenkogel – Velden
On a city tour of Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia, you discover the old town with its Renaissance buildings and the Lindwurm Fountain. Then you travel up the Pyramidenkogel: from the 100 m high wooden tower the view stretches far across Lake Wörthersee. In Velden there is time for a stroll along the lakeside promenade or a coffee break with a lake view.
Day 4: Nockalm Road – Gmünd – Lake Millstatt
Today you have the option of an optional day trip (opt.): on the Nockalm Road with its 52 bends you experience one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in Carinthia. In the afternoon you visit the artists' town of Gmünd with its medieval old town and historic town gates, and to finish, you head to Lake Millstatt. Those who do not fancy the scenic drive can enjoy a relaxing day at Lake Ossiach. In the evening, Carinthian farmers' buffet with musical entertainment.
Day 5: Ossiach – Switzerland
After breakfast, it is time to bid farewell to Carinthia. Return journey to Switzerland.
You stay at the family-run
3* Gasthof Zur Post (official regional category) in the centre of Ossiach, just a few minutes' walk from the shore of Lake Ossiach. The modern rooms have a bathroom and satellite TV, some also have a balcony. The day begins with a generous breakfast buffet; in the evening the restaurant serves Carinthian specialities and international dishes. Equivalent hotel if unavailable.
