Rioja wines, Basque pintxos & Spanish classics
Immerse yourself in the culinary heart of Spain and enjoy a delightful journey through the north of the country. From a centrally located base hotel, you will taste the robust wines of the Ribera del Duero and La Rioja, be tempted by the pintxos in San Sebastian and savour the crispy cochinillo (roast suckling pig) in Segovia. All culinary highlights are included in the travel price.
Day 1: Switzerland – Madrid
Flight to Madrid and welcome dinner together.
Day 2: Madrid
City tour taking in Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Gran Vía. The highlight is a tapas tour of the bars around the Mercado de San Miguel, including sangria or Verdejo.
Day 3: Madrid – Aranda del Duero – Vitoria
Journey north to the Ribera del Duero, one of Spain's most renowned wine regions. In Aranda del Duero you will taste the robust Tempranillo wines over a traditional lunch. In the afternoon, continue to Vitoria-Gasteiz, the elegant capital of the Basque Country.
Day 4: Bilbao
Excursion to Bilbao with a guided tour of the old town, Casco Viejo. The highlight is admission to the world-famous Guggenheim Museum with its spectacular collection of contemporary art.
Day 5: San Sebastián
Day trip to San Sebastián, the pearl of the Basque Country. On a culinary tour you will discover the old town and the legendary pintxos bars, where you can enjoy small Basque delicacies with a glass of Txakoli, the local white wine.
Day 6: Logroño – La Rioja
City tour of Logroño, the lively capital of La Rioja. This is followed by a visit to a winery with an extensive tasting of the world-famous Rioja wines.
Day 7: Vitoria – Segovia
Journey to Segovia with a guided tour of the Roman aqueduct and the fairytale Alcázar. The highlight is the cochinillo lunch, crispy suckling pig.
Day 8: Segovia – Madrid – Switzerland
Return flight from Madrid to Switzerland.
You will stay in carefully selected 4* hotels (official national category) throughout the journey. In Madrid you will be centrally located at the modern Novotel Center, in Vitoria at the elegant Silken Ciudad de Vitoria. The grand finale is the stylish Hotel San Antonio el Real in Segovia, a historic monastery with charm. Equivalent hotels in case of unavailability.
