Discover the fascinating region between southern Champagne and northern Burgundy – a landscape full of tradition, indulgence and historic towns. Brightly coloured half-timbered houses, magnificent churches, fine wines and lively culture accompany you on this short but impressive journey. Look forward to sparkling moments and authentic impressions in one of the most charming regions of France.
Journey to Troyes. Stop in Belfort on the way.
In the morning you travel to Auxerre, located in northern Burgundy. Here the Canal du Nivernais flows into the River Yonne. The best-known sight, which you can admire during your city walk, is the Cathedral of Saint-Etienne, rising above the residential houses in the middle of the town. Construction of the cathedral began in 1215, but it was not completed until the 16th century. Auxerre is also known for its beautiful, unique clock tower: the hands of the clock, which end in a sun and a moon face, meet at 12 noon at new moon and at midnight at full moon. What would a trip to Burgundy be without a drop of delicious wine? In the afternoon you visit a winegrower in his cellar and taste the local Crémant de Bourgogne.
In Troyes a guided city walk awaits you. Colourful old half-timbered houses, picturesque lanes and impressive churches: the beauty of the town, whose old quarter is shaped like a Champagne cork, does not have to be searched for. It reveals itself at first sight. As you stroll along the cobbled streets, you will discover the poetry of the timber buildings: green, blue, yellow and pale pink facades, window crosses, carved beams, oriel windows, pointed gables and umbrella roofs as far as the eye can see. During the city tour you visit a local cellar to taste regional delicacies, including the obligatory glass of Champagne. Santé! The afternoon is at your leisure.
Return journey to Switzerland. Stop in Dijon, the elegant capital of Burgundy. It impresses with a beautiful old town full of half-timbered houses, town palaces and historic squares. The city is famous for its culinary specialities such as mustard, cassis and first-class Burgundy wines, making it a charming destination for lovers of culture and fine food.
