Sweet treats and bargain shopping
Over 100 of the finest chocolatiers from 14 countries gather in the old town of Tübingen to showcase their most imaginative creations. Alongside chocolate lollies and marzipan snowmen, you will also find chocolate beer and chilli chocolate from Ghana. Seductive chocolate massages and praline workshops are also on offer at the "ChocolART".
Journey to Tübingen. Arrival at midday. Welcome to Germany's chocolate capital, at least in early December. Liquid, mouldable or solid: at the Chocolate Festival, chocolatiers from around the world show just how versatile chocolate can be. In demonstration workshops, pralines are rolled into shape, chocolate kisses are piped, fruit skewers are held under the chocolate fountain and chocolate pictures are painted on canvases. Every year the chocolatiers surprise visitors anew. The focus is not only on the various exotic types of chocolate; producers also place great value on production and processing. At every stand, drinks are made with regional organic milk, and fairly produced chocolate has long since become established here.
Alternatively, you may first continue to the Metzingen Outlet City (optional), with over 60 international top brands in flagship outlets, and pick up a bargain or two. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés to refuel. Late afternoon, short drive back to Tübingen. In the evening, the historic half-timbered façades on the Marktplatz and Holzmarkt transform into brightly illuminated works of art, a feast for the senses.
You will have another opportunity to stroll through the Chocolate Festival or the medieval old town. In the afternoon, return journey to Switzerland.
