Trip details

Day 1: Switzerland - Ybbs an der Donau

Travel past Munich to a lunch stop in a typical Bavarian beer garden. After a relaxing break, continue via Salzburg to the gateway of the lovely Wachau, Ybbs an der Donau. Your hotel is located directly on the beautiful blue Danube.

The last boarding point in Switzerland is St. Gallen, Bahnhof Nord, at 10.35 am.

Day 2: Melk Abbey

As you enjoy a wonderful breakfast, you can watch the cargo ships glide slowly past your hotel. Take your time to start the day at a leisurely pace. After a short coach journey you will reach Melk. You will be deeply impressed by Austria's oldest and largest Baroque monastery complex. Melk Abbey towers high above the little town.

Thanks to its palatial monumentality, this world-famous abbey is regarded throughout Europe as an icon of Baroque architecture. Since its foundation in 1089 it has been inseparably linked with the history of Austria and is still continuously inhabited by Benedictine monks today. Built in its present form to plans by J. Prandtauer and J. Munggenast, it contains rooms of magnificent splendour and houses some of Austria's greatest art treasures.

Day 3: (Optional) Vienna

Vienna, the city of dreams, awaits you today in all its splendour. On the sightseeing tour, admire the magnificent buildings along the Ringstrasse, such as the State Opera, Burgtheater, Hofburg, Parliament, University, Belvedere Palace and St Stephen's Cathedral. Enjoy time to stroll and discover one of Europe's most enchanting cities, and of course the famous Viennese charm. You will have plenty of time to explore Vienna on your own and enjoy a day in Austria's capital.

Day 4: The Wachau

Today is entirely devoted to the Wachau, a cultural landscape that is among the most beautiful stretches of the Danube. From Krems to Spitz and on by coach to Dürnstein. The blue and white tower of the collegiate church on the riverbank, visible from afar, rises above the picturesque lanes. The Wachau is a uniquely beautiful and romantic region that will enchant you. It is also known for its vineyards, so you will visit a winegrower, where a tasting of the fine local wine is of course a must.

Day 5: Ybbs an der Donau - Switzerland

You travel through the Salzburg region into Tyrol. The journey takes you via Innsbruck and over the Arlberg Pass back to Switzerland.

In Ybbs an der Donau you will stay at the
4* Hotel Donau Lodge (official national rating). The hotel enjoys a picturesque location directly on the Danube and impresses with beautifully furnished rooms and wonderful cuisine. The rooms offer shower/bath, TV, safe, hairdryer and much more. Danube view available for a supplement.
