Baroque Dresden and the enchanting Spreewald
Immerse yourself in the captivating baroque splendour of Dresden and experience the city in all its varied facets. Enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere of a steam train on one of Germany's most impressive railway routes, and discover the Spreewald on a charming punt trip through its idyllic river landscape.
Day 1: Switzerland - Dresden
Journey to Dresden.
Day 2: Dresden
Discover the unique, distinctive and fascinating character of Dresden on a guided city tour, and learn more about the city's eventful history. The cityscape is shaped by historic landmarks such as the Semperoper, the Frauenkirche, the Hofkirche and the Zwinger, an elaborate baroque complex housing several museums. The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace, for example with a stroll along the banks of the Elbe.
Day 3: Spreewald
Journey to the Spreewald. This fairytale river landscape is so beautiful and unique that it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. On a sightseeing cruise you will learn all about life along the Spree's many channels. On a punt trip you glide through primeval woodlands, lush flora and fauna, and past thatched farmhouses. A cucumber presentation is also on the programme, and of course you can taste a cucumber.
Day 4: Saxon Switzerland
Journey to Freital, where you transfer to the legendary steam train of the Weisseritztal Railway. Since 1882 this narrow-gauge railway, with a track width of 750 mm, has puffed its way through fantastic landscapes and delighted every passenger. In Kipsdorf you continue by coach on a panoramic tour through the Osterzgebirge and the wild and romantic Müglitz valley. Ahead lies a magnificent, quirky landscape of fine Elbe sandstone: Saxon Switzerland!
Day 5: Dresden - Switzerland
Return journey to Switzerland.
The modern 4* Hotel Dresden Neustadt is located between the lively Dresden Neustadt district and the historic Old Town. The hotel offers 269 comfortable, air-conditioned rooms with bath or shower/WC, hairdryer, TV, safe, minibar and Wi-Fi. Facilities include a restaurant, a bar, a wellness area with sauna and steam bath, and a fitness room. Equivalent hotel if unavailable.
