Trip details

Day 1: Switzerland – Elba

Drive along the Ligurian and Tuscan coast to Piombino. On the crossing to the island of Elba, you soon reach the picturesque harbour of Portoferraio and check in to your hotel near the beach.

Day 2: Western Elba

Your first stage leads to the west of the island, past small fishing villages on the coast and through fields, woods and old farmhouses. The backdrop is Monte Capanne, the highest mountain on Elba, while granite rocks shape the landscape. Wide views over the sea open up again and again, and on clear days you can see as far as the French island of Corsica. (40 km)

Day 3: Central Elba

Around Sant'Ilario, perched on a hill, grow Mediterranean scrub, chestnut trees and mixed woodland. Worth seeing are the plain parish church of dark brick and the Romanesque Chiesa di Sant'Ilario in the village centre. You continue cycling to the small mountain villages of Campo nell'Elba and experience the typical vegetation of the quiet island interior. (30 km)

Day 4: Southern Elba

From Marina di Campo in the south, you head down to the sea with gentle climbs and descents alternating and magnificent views. The resort has the island's longest sandy beach and a small harbour in a sheltered bay. In the oldest part of the town, picturesque lanes, small boutiques and pavement cafés invite you to linger. (60 km)

Day 5: Eastern Elba

Today's tour takes you to the east coast, to the former fishing villages of Cavo, Rio Marina and Rio nell'Elba, which tell of the island's old mining history. Colourful harbours and wide sea views accompany you as far as Porto Azzurro, whose lively waterfront promenade and narrow lanes invite you to a relaxed finish. (25 km)

Day 6: Elba – Switzerland

After disembarking in Piombino, you begin the journey home to Switzerland.

You stay in a 4* hotel (official national category) of HIT Alpinea in Kranjska Gora: Kompas, Ramada Resort or Ramada Hotel & Suites. All three are centrally located in the village with views of the Julian Alps. On the edge of the village, the crystal-clear Jasna Lake invites you for a stroll. Equivalent hotel if unavailable.

Level of difficulty

Enjoyment and relaxation are at the heart of this trip. The daily stages of 45 to 65 km and 400 to 530 metres of elevation gain lead via cycle paths and minor roads through the valleys of the Julian Alps; thanks to the e-bike, the climbs are easily manageable. The longest stage on day 2 can be shortened.
