A journey through Tuscany and Umbria
Umbria and Tuscany are among the most unspoilt cultural landscapes in Italy. Gentle hills, medieval towns and world-famous works of art shape a region where history and the art of living have been intertwined for centuries. Away from the busy coastal crowds, you will discover an Italy full of authenticity, indulgence and timeless elegance, rich in impressions and filled with genuine Italian joie de vivre.
Trip details
Day 1: Switzerland - Perugia
Journey via the Gotthard route, Milan and Bologna to Perugia.
Day 2: Perugia and Assisi
Drive to Assisi. Guided walking tour of the home of St Francis. Afterwards, return to Perugia and a guided tour of the historic old town. Dinner in a selected restaurant in Perugia.
Day 3: Orvieto and Montepulciano
Stop in Orvieto in the morning, picturesquely situated on a tuff plateau. Admire the cathedral, a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture. In the afternoon, enjoy a wine tasting with a light snack in Montepulciano.
Day 4: Perugia - Siena - Lucca
Drive to Siena and a guided walking tour of the medieval old town. Continue to Lucca and check in at the hotel.
Day 5: Lucca
Guided walking tour of Lucca in the morning. You will stroll along the fully preserved Renaissance wall that encircles the entire old town. The afternoon is at your leisure for individual discoveries.
Day 6: Excursion to Florence
Full-day excursion to Florence with a guided walking tour and highlights such as the Ponte Vecchio, the Cathedral and Piazza della Signoria. To finish, enjoy a typical Tuscan dinner on a country estate.
Day 7: Lucca - Switzerland
Return journey via Milan to the departure points in Switzerland.
For the first three nights you will stay at the Hotel Giò Wine e Jazz Area**** (official national rating), above the historic centre of Perugia. This modern hotel combines contemporary comfort with a special culinary concept centred on wine and music. You will spend the following three nights at the Grand Hotel Guinigi**** (official national rating), approx. 1.5 km from the historic centre of Lucca. Both hotels offer comfortable rooms with shower or bath, WC, hairdryer, air conditioning and TV. Equivalent hotels will be used if these are unavailable.
