Trip details

Day 1: Switzerland - Provence

The Rhône Valley is the gateway to Provence. You travel via Valence and Montélimar to L'Isle sur la Sorgue.

The last boarding point in German-speaking Switzerland is Bern, coach park Schützenmatte, at 09.15.

Day 2: Ventoux - Lavender

Drive up to the majestic summit of Mont Ventoux. At its foot lie the most beautiful lavender fields in France, glowing violet around Sault. Visit a lavender distillery near the historic town of Sault, the centre of French lavender cultivation.

Day 3: Avignon - Pont du Gard

Optional excursion: visit Avignon with its Pont d'Avignon. In the afternoon you will admire the imposing "Pont du Gard", part of an aqueduct that bears witness to the extraordinary engineering skill of the Romans.

Day 4: Arles - Camargue

The city of Arles, with its mighty Roman amphitheatre, is the soul of Provence. In the Rhône delta lies the natural landscape of the Camargue, known for cattle and horse breeding, salt production and rice growing. Stop in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. On the return journey you will enjoy the view from Les Baux, a medieval "ghost town" perched on a rocky spur of the Alpilles.

Day 5: Luberon - Roussillon

You will make a detour into the Vaucluse mountains to the sleepy village of Roussillon, one of the most beautiful villages in France, which beckons visitors with its famous, glowing ochre quarries. In contrast, the venerable Sénanque Abbey is surrounded by blue-blooming lavender fields.

Day 6: Provence - Switzerland

Return journey to Switzerland.

You will stay for 5 nights in the heart of Provence at the romantic 4* Hotel SOWELL Le Domaine de la petite Isle (official national rating) in L'Isle sur la Sorgue, a town with an excellent reputation as a village of antiques. The hotel enjoys a quiet, picturesque setting in a 1.6-hectare park on the riverbank. Look forward to two pools and friendly service. The renovated, air-conditioned rooms all have their own bath or shower/WC, hairdryer and TV. In the hotel restaurant you can sample typical dishes prepared with fresh regional ingredients. A hotel of equal standard will be used if this one is unavailable.
