Spring awakening on the Côte d'Azur
The Nice Carnival is one of the largest carnival events in the world. Since the 13th century, the Mediterranean city has devoted two weeks every year to festive revelry. The carnival opens with the arrival of the King. The colourful festivities will enchant you too! At the "Fête du Citron" in Menton, citrus fruits are celebrated with events, parades and shows – and real fruit is arranged into elaborate sculptures. On this coach trip, enjoy the spring-like temperatures in the "capital of the Côte d'Azur".
Trip details
Day 1: Switzerland - Nice
Journey via Lucerne and through the Gotthard into Ticino, then past Genoa via Diano Marina to the Flower Riviera and on to Nice.
Day 2: Flower Parade Nice
In the morning, walking tour of Nice with a local guide. At 2.30 pm the flower parade starts on the Promenade des Anglais. The large floats are decorated with around 3,000 colourful flowers. Roses, orchids, sunflowers, mimosas, carnations and many other blooms create a riot of colour. Colourful costumes are everywhere, with dancers dressed in black and white and stilt walkers in fabulous fantasy outfits. In between, festively decorated floats known as "Bataille des Fleurs", the Battle of Flowers, make their way along.
Day 3: Lemon Festival Menton
The morning is at your leisure. In the early afternoon, short coach journey to Menton. Everywhere you can marvel at gigantic motifs made of citrus fruits. The fantastic figures, glowing yellow and orange, stand mainly in the Biovès Gardens. Numerous floats decorated with oranges and lemons set off at 2.30 pm. You may spend the rest of the afternoon exploring on your own as you please.
Day 4: Nice - Switzerland
You follow the Riviera dei Fiori to Genoa and continue via Milan to Switzerland.
You will stay at the elegant 4* Holiday Inn Nice City Centre (official national rating). It is located in the heart of Nice, just a 5-minute walk from the famous Promenade des Anglais. The modern rooms have bath/WC, hairdryer, telephone, TV, wardrobe and desk, minibar and safe. The hotel restaurant serves dishes prepared with organic produce on the shaded terrace. Equivalent hotel if unavailable.
