Puglia - terra e mare - land and sea - is a world of contrasts, with rugged cliff coastlines, lush garden landscapes, oriental-style towns, magnificent castles, mysterious caves and the crystal-clear Adriatic. This Eurobus Deluxe coach tour takes you to a different, almost undiscovered southern Italy with its own, more leisurely rhythm of life, where the lively bustle of the morning hours still comes to an abrupt halt in the stillness and tranquillity of the early afternoon nap.
Trip details
Day 1: Switzerland - Tortoreto Lido
Journey past Bologna to the Adriatic coast.
Day 2: Tortoreto - Carovigno
Along the coast to the south and the mystical, octagonal Castel del Monte, also known as the "Stone Crown of Puglia". Onward journey south to Carovigno/Torre Santa Sabina by the sea.
Day 3: Alberobello - Ostuni
With your tour guide you will discover the garden landscape of Puglia and marvel at the original white "pointed-roof houses" in Alberobello, the "town of 1,000 trulli". Ostuni owes its nickname "White City" to its beautiful old town with its whitewashed limestone houses. Built on three hills, it offers a magnificent view over the olive groves of the plain.
Day 4: Orecchiette - Monopoli
A relaxed day with an orecchiette cooking class in the morning and a light lunch. In the afternoon, excursion to the little harbour town of Monopoli, which has preserved its authentic Puglian charm.
Day 5: Lecce - Gallipoli
(Optional excursion) Drive to the "Florence of the South" - Lecce. On the west coast of the heel, Gallipoli welcomes you with a sea of houses in every shade of white. Return journey through the wine region of Galatina.
Day 6: Matera - San Severino
The highlight of today is the guided visit of the impressive cave dwellings of Matera. Onward journey to Mercato San Severino near Salerno.
Day 7: Amalfi Coast - Castiglion
Enjoy a relaxing boat trip from Salerno to Amalfi and back to Salerno. Admire the rugged cliffs of the Amalfi Coast. In the afternoon, continue to southern Tuscany and Castiglion Fiorentino in the Arezzo area.
Day 8: Castiglion - Switzerland
Journey home to Switzerland.
You will stay throughout in good 4* hotels (official national rating), including 4 nights at the family-run 4* Boutique Hotel Cico, just 30 m from the sea and the promenade in Torre Santa Sabina. The ultra-modern rooms are equipped with bath or shower/WC, flat-screen TV and air conditioning. The hotels in Tortoreto, Castiglion and Mercato San Severino offer contemporary comfort. Equivalent hotels will be used if the above are unavailable.
