Day 1: Switzerland - Dorfgastein

Journey to Dorfgastein.

Day 2: Top of Austria! - the Grossglockner High Alpine Road

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is one of Austria's most famous landmarks and is considered one of the most beautiful scenic mountain roads in the world. Almost seamlessly blending into the mountain landscape, this largely high-alpine road stretches 48 kilometres and winds bend after bend right into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. It climbs up to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, with a view of Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner, and the Pasterze, the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps. Majestic mountain peaks, glaciers, green valleys and forests: a sight that will leave you amazed at the mountains!

Day 3: Salzburg

Journey to Salzburg. Mozart's birthplace is famous for its magnificent architecture, its imposing fortress, its almost fairytale-like lanes, its beautiful old town and its small shops. After a walk with your tour guide through the impressive city centre, you will have time in the afternoon to visit a café or go shopping.

Day 4: Zell am See

(Optional) Today we travel to Zell am See. On a boat trip you will enjoy the view of spectacular mountain panoramas: the Steinernes Meer to the north, the Hohe Tauern to the south, the Zeller Hausberg, the Schmittenhöhe to the west and the town of Zell am See itself. Afterwards you can explore Zell am See at your own pace. Then we continue to a rustic mountain hut in Rauris, where you will be expertly introduced to schnapps and bacon production. After an introduction to how schnapps is distilled, liqueurs are steeped and bacon is smoked, you can sample the schnapps and enjoy a delicious bacon and cheese snack.

Day 5: Dorfgastein - Switzerland

Return journey to Switzerland.

The traditional yet modern 4*S Hotel Krone (official state category) has been run by the same family since 1885 and lies directly on the Neckar, just a few minutes' walk from the old town.
