Magnificent landscapes - not just for eccentric kings
The very mention of the Loire conjures up splendid Renaissance châteaux with all their pomp and splendour, lavish royal festivities with their mistresses, and bloody intrigues with deadly feuds. This Deluxe coach tour to the "Garden of France" offers a picturesque river landscape, wonderful garden paradises, magnificent art treasures and charming little towns, as well as time to relax and enjoy yourself.
Journey through Burgundy to Blois, whose château was a seat of the French kings.
Excursion: (optional) Villandry owes its excellent reputation to its five unique gardens. Around the last Loire château built during the Renaissance lies an enchanting parkland: the decorative vegetable garden, the ornamental garden, the water garden, the herb garden and the maze. Detour to nearby Azay-le-Rideau. Balzac described this romantic moated château, gracefully reflected in the lake, as a "cut diamond".
Excursion: (optional) You visit Château de Cheverny, famous for its pack of almost 100 hunting hounds, which the lord of the manor still keeps today. Set in a vast park, the largest château on the Loire, Château de Chambord, impresses with its sheer dimensions alone: 282 chimneys, countless turrets and 426 rooms. It stands as a symbol of the king's immense wealth and power. Free time in Blois in the afternoon. Perhaps you would like to visit the magnificent château with its bloody history or stroll through the old town.
Excursion: (optional) The highlight of every Loire trip is Chenonceau, built on five arches across the River Cher. For centuries, women ruled in this palace - whether queen, wife or mistress. You then visit the "Tomato Prince" de Broglie at Château de la Bourdaisière and marvel as much at the colourful splendour of the garden as at the 650 varieties of tomato. You enjoy a light lunch featuring typical produce from the château garden. In the afternoon, stop in Amboise, whose château majestically towers over the Loire. The genius Leonardo da Vinci died in this little town around 500 years ago.
Return journey to Switzerland.
