Twinkling lights at the Minster
For four weeks, Ulm shines especially brightly at its traditional Christmas market on Münsterplatz. At the foot of the Gothic Minster, with its magnificent portal and the tallest church spire in the world, this Christmas market draws visitors from near and far every year. Cosy, winding lanes of stalls and richly decorated stands are set against the backdrop of Ulm, a charming shopping city.
Trip details
Day 1: Switzerland - Ulm
Journey via Lake Constance, past Bregenz, to Ulm. Arrival in Ulm at approx. 13:00. The tourist heart of the city is Ulm Minster, with the tallest church spire in the world. Alongside numerous buildings worth seeing, the festively decorated Advent stalls gather here. Enjoy the pre-Christmas atmosphere on Münsterplatz.
Culinary specialities, toys, handicrafts and tree decorations, as well as a children's carousel and a sheep pen with live animals, make the Ulm Christmas market the city's most important event for four weeks every year. In front of the Minster's main portal, Christmas music and singing are performed every day during the market. Thanks to the direct link to the pedestrian zones, a shopping stroll is a perfect way to round off the day.
Day 2: Ulm - Switzerland
Free time at your leisure. Would you like to visit the Ulm Christmas market once more, or how about some shopping in the beautiful city centre instead? A stroll through the Fishermen's and Tanners' Quarter is almost a must. Since the end of the 1970s, this historic craftsmen's quarter has been lovingly restored and charms visitors with its pretty houses.
Return journey via Lake Constance to Switzerland, or extra night.
The Ulm Christmas Market
Over 130 stalls line the square at the foot of the imposing Minster. Every year, the Ulm Christmas market has special attractions in store: for example the "Living Nativity", a glassblower's hut and handmade works of art made from pralines and gingerbread.

The 4* Hotel Maritim (official national rating) is located directly on the banks of the Danube, on the edge of the old town. Situated on Münsterplatz, the Motel One (official national rating) offers a direct view of the Minster, with restaurants, theatres and museums within walking distance. The hotel has a bar. Please note that the coach drop-off and pick-up point is at the Ulm coach park, approx. 5 minutes' walk from Motel One. Equivalent hotel if unavailable.
