Marking the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death, this festive music trip takes you to Vienna. You will walk in the footsteps of the great composer, enjoy Schönbrunn Palace and a convivial evening at a traditional Heuriger wine tavern. The highlight is the "Missa solemnis" at St Stephen's Cathedral.
Day 1: Switzerland – Vienna
Journey to the Austrian capital. You will check into your elegant hotel near Schönbrunn Palace and end the first evening with a shared dinner.
Day 2: Vienna
On a city tour ‘In the Footsteps of Beethoven’, you will see the sites from the composer's life, as well as the magnificent Ringstrasse and his former residences. The afternoon is yours to spend as you wish, perhaps in a Viennese coffee house or one of the major museums.
Day 3: Schönbrunn & St. Stephen's Cathedral
In the morning, you will visit Schönbrunn Palace with an audio guide, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs. Afterwards, stroll through the atmospheric pre-Christmas market in front of the palace, where the scent of punch and roasted chestnuts fills the air. In the evening, the highlight of the trip awaits: Beethoven's monumental ‘Missa solemnis’ op. 123 in the impressive setting of St. Stephen's Cathedral.
Day 4: Central Cemetery & Heuriger
In the morning, a visit to the Vienna Central Cemetery takes you to the honorary graves of Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Johann Strauss. The afternoon is free for you to spend as you wish. Optionally, you may visit the interactive House of Music, the sound museum in the heart of Vienna (opt.). The day concludes with a Heuriger evening at the traditional Mayer am Pfarrplatz, where Beethoven once lived himself, with a Heuriger buffet and a glass of winegrower's sparkling wine as an aperitif.
Day 5: Vienna – Switzerland
Return journey to Switzerland. On the way, you will enjoy a shared lunch.
