Islands in the North Sea - between high and low tide
Moin, moin East Frisia: these are the islands on the wide horizon, ever changing with the ebb and flow of the tide, these are romantic fishing villages nestled against the dykes, sheltered from the rough sea, this is flat green countryside framed by windmills and old farmsteads, and these are its charming residents.
Travel via Frankfurt to Münster.
Guided walk through the charming city of Münster. After the Second World War it was rebuilt in the old style. The Gothic facades and the Baroque and Renaissance buildings shine in new splendour. In Papenburg you visit the famous Meyer Shipyard and marvel at enormous cruise ships. In the evening you reach Emden with its romantic old town and harbour.
Excursion from Emden by ferry to the island of Borkum. It lies further from the mainland than all the other East Frisian islands. Almost all of the 6,560 islanders live in the town of Borkum in the west of the island. Expect varied nature with dunes, woodland, heath and mudflats, as well as a unique world of animals and plants.
Full-day discovery drive through the East Frisian countryside to the picturesque fishing village of Greetsiel with its historic windmills. You enjoy the East Frisians' national drink at a genuine tea ceremony with cake. At the seal station you watch orphaned young seals.
(Optional excursion) Drive across East Frisia to Bensersiel. After a boat trip right through the Wadden Sea you reach the island of Langeoog (Frisian for "long island"). You change to the little train to the village centre of Langeoog. On the car-free island you enjoy a horse-carriage ride and have time for walks.
You travel to Bremen for a city walk. The landmarks include the magnificent Renaissance town hall, the Bremen Town Musicians, the Schnoor – Bremen's oldest quarter, Böttcher-Strasse and Bremen Cathedral.
Return journey to Switzerland.
