Trip details

Day 1: Switzerland - Lisbon

Direct flight with SWISS from Zurich to Lisbon and transfer to your hotel. (2 nights at Hotel Turim Marques****).

Day 2: Sintra - Belém - Lisbon

Drive to the fairytale landscape of Sintra and exterior visit of the Royal Palace. This palace is considered the landmark of the town and is a unique example of medieval royal palaces in Portugal. Sintra has always been especially popular with the Portuguese kings. The palace as it stands today is owed to King João I, who rebuilt it, and King Manuel I, who extended it and added a wing. Afterwards continue to Cabo da Roca, then along the coast to the Monument to the Discoveries and the Tower of Belém.

Afternoon city tour of Lisbon. A ride on the historic tram takes you through the attractive districts of Bairro Alto and Alfama. Each of these districts is a must-see in Lisbon, steeped in history and full of life. Alfama, the oldest district of the city, tells stories of the past through medieval alleys and Moorish influences. At the same time, Bairro Alto, with its vibrant nightlife, colourful street art and trendy bars and restaurants, presents a contrasting picture.

Day 3: Alentejo

Alentejo is becoming the fastest-growing winemaking region in Portugal and, thanks to its innovative approach, is also known as the "Californa of Portugal". Today you visit two of the best-known wineries: Quinta do Esporão and Quinta do Zambujeiro, owned by the Swiss Emil Strickler. In 1999 the brothers Alain and Philippe Bramaz made the first wine for Zambujeiro, on behalf of the winery owner Emil Strickler.

In a makeshift cellar, just 6,000 kg of grapes were processed at Zambujeiro. Today that is history, and Zambujeiro ranks among the finest in the country, and not only in Alentejo. The wines of Zambujeiro have also gained considerable international recognition and can be found on the wine lists of many well-known restaurants. (Pousada Castelo Estremoz****).

Day 4: Dão

Drive to the Dão wine region and visit the Quinta de Pellada winery. During a tasting you will discover the great potential the Dão holds, thanks also to the tireless winemaker Alvaro Castro. On an individual stroll you will explore the medieval old town of Viseu. (Hotel Montebelo Principe Perfeito****).

Day 5: Quinta de la Rosa - Douro

Today you discover the scenically very attractive Douro Valley by train and boat. Marvel at the steep terraces on both banks of the river. In between, there is another winery visit to Quinta de la Rosa, including a light lunch snack. In the 17th century the history of port wine in the Douro Valley began in the monastery of Lamego. The valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to Quinta de la Rosa, one of Portugal's leading wine producers in terms of quality. It is the oldest protected wine region in the world. Enjoy the magnificent views of the characteristic Douro landscape. (Hotel Quinta da Pacheca***** in Lamego).

Day 6: Porto

Drive to Porto. Enjoy a culinary and playful city walk here. Afterwards, port wine tasting in Vila Nova de Gaia and farewell dinner at the Restaurant 1828 overlooking the Douro. (Hotel Fotinha Porto****).

Day 7: Porto - Switzerland

Transfer to the airport and return flight.

In Lisbon you will stay for 2 nights at the selected ****Hotel Turim Marques with good connections to the centre. You will remember the Pousada Castelo Estremoz**** for a long time. Once a castle built in the 13th century for Queen Santa Isabel, the Pousada offers a breathtaking panoramic view over the vast Alentejo plain.
